Downsizing can not only unlock a nest egg to supplement income, but it can also provide the ideal opportunity to move somewhere new and make a fresh start.
After 40 years living in Dewsbury, Martin decided it was time to downsize and move into a retirement community, that had activities on tap and a ready-made community on his doorstep.
“The central location of our Dewsbury house was the main selling point; it was near local shops, and you could get around easily thanks to good transport links and proximity to major road networks,” explained Martin. “We raised our children there, and as a family we enjoyed everything the local area had to offer. The children went to the local schools, and we had access to the leisure centre nearby. The house served us well, and as the family grew, we converted the loft and added a conservatory. But when the children moved out and a change in circumstances followed, it felt the right time to make a move and begin a new chapter elsewhere.”
A new chapter
With a wish list in hand, Martin began to search for a new property. “I wanted to move to something smaller and more manageable, but still be within the Leeds area,” said Martin. “I found a McCarthy Stone development in the village of Shadwell, just north of Leeds city centre. Thackrah Court was fantastic and had all the services and facilities I was looking for.”
After finding the ideal apartment at Thackrah Court, Martin knew this was the place he wanted to live. But, with the Dewsbury property still to sell in order to move into Thackrah Court, Martin spoke with the McCarthy Stone team to discuss the options available.
“My house wasn’t on the market yet, and as I wanted to make the move as soon as possible, the team at Thackrah Court recommended using Spring’s Part-Exchange service,” explained Martin. “Using Part-Exchange meant I wouldn’t have to put my Dewsbury property on the market and wait for a buyer; Spring would simply buy it directly from me instead. This was the ideal solution for me, and after visiting Spring’s website and reading positive stories from other McCarthy Stone customers; I decided to go ahead.”
Taking the next steps
“I hadn’t used a service like this before, and from the onset, the Spring team where helpful, polite, and professional. My dedicated Property Advisor called Shah, helped me through everything and explained the process very well,” said Martin.
With his Dewsbury home sale now guaranteed with Spring, Martin was able to make all the necessary arrangements for the move ahead. Included as standard in Spring’s Part-Exchange service, is a complimentary ‘license to occupy’, which allows homeowners to access their old property, as well as their new property, for up to 28 days post completion. Many Spring customers use this additional 28 days to declutter their old home, or even decorate and fit new carpets in their new apartment. The feature is a great way to reduce overall stress around the move, as customers don’t have to worry about moving-out and moving-in all on one day. “The licence to occupy feature was very helpful indeed for me and a great feature of the Part-Exchange process,” said Martin.
New beginnings
“I’m excited about the move, and I hope to use all the facilities on offer at Thackrah Court as soon as possible. The apartment has a great layout; I love the balcony and looking forward to enjoying the view in Summer. Thanks to Spring, the sale has gone through very quickly, which was my main objective. Everyone at Spring has been very helpful so far, and I would recommend Spring’s Part-Exchange service to friends and family.” ← RETURN to BLOG/STORIES
