Sharon and Jim fix broken chain with Spring

Moving home is often cited as one of life’s most stressful experiences, with Yopa revealing that 60% of people put off moving because the change is so stressful. Our own Spring research revealed that even in a frantic market, over a third of sales fall through. This unfortunate situation of a sale falling through was one Sharon and Jim suffered on multiple occasions, and when faced the possibility of losing the home they had fallen in love with, the couple needed a solution to get their own home sold and not lose their onward purchase.

Moving to a new area

In February ’20, Sharon and Jim made the decision to move from Droitwich in the West Midlands to The Mumbles in Swansea. ‘We both fell in love with the area after our frequent visits to see our daughter who was studying at Swansea University, it’s such a beautiful place’, said Sharon.

The couple couldn’t find their perfect property in The Mumbles, so settled on a property in nearby Mayals. After a successful restoration and 14 months of living in the property during lockdown, Sharon and Jim longed for their beloved Mumbles location and decided they wanted to pack up and move to the town that had first drawn them to Wales. ‘We wanted the beach, be local to the quaint shops and have the cafes, restaurants and village life on our doorstep’, explained Sharon.

Finding the dream

The couple chose a local estate agent who successfully marketed the Mayals property finding a buyer within days. Sharon and Jim where delighted and began their search for the Mumbles property. ‘We were lucky and found the most beautiful detached property in The Mumbles in our ideal location. We made an offer which was thankfully accepted and were over the moon’, said Sharon.

All seemed to be going swimmingly, but the buyer on their Mayals home ran into problems and after months of conveyancing delays, their buyer pulled out of the sale, putting Sharon and Jim back to where they started. ‘We were so frustrated and felt we had wasted a lot of time and energy, it was so disheartening and left us panicking we would lose the Mumbles property’.

Back on the market again

The disheartened couple took the decision to relist in the hope they would find a new buyer so they could keep their onward purchase intact, and after a flurry of interest, they secured a buyer on their Mayals home who offered over the asking price. However, sadly after a few days the couple received the unfortunate news that their buyer had pulled out. ‘We felt nervous after the first sale falling through, we had doubts about the second buyer also and when he pulled out after a few days, we were devastated’, explained Sharon. ‘We were fed up with people messing us around and felt like we had no control on our own home sale. We had wasted over 4 months and faced losing the Mumbles house because of all the delays and let downs, it was so stressful’.

A stress-free alternative

Sharon and Jim began to look at the alternatives available outside the traditional estate agency route that would sell their house fast, and give them the guaranteed sale they needed. ‘I’d heard of we buy any house and home-buying companies before, but I was dubious as some don’t have a great reputation’, said Sharon. After conducting online research and guided by verified Trustpilot reviews, Sharon found Spring and two other house buying companies who she contacted to get an offer on her property.

Getting the keys

Within 4 weeks, and to suit the timings of the owner of the Mumbles property, Sharon and Jim got the keys to their new home.
